WHERE?

We will be exploring in the amazing David Thompson Corridor in Alberta! Stretching 83km's along Highway 11 from Nordegg to the Banff National Park boundary in west-central Alberta, the David Thompson Corridor remains one of the few mountain areas in the province outside either a national or provincial park, or a wilderness area.  From the rolling foothills of the Nordegg area to the towering pinnacles of the main ranges, the David Thompson Corridor offers some of the most diversified scenery, flora and history in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains.

WHAT?

This experience includes 2 days of exploring, seeing the beauty of waterfalls all around us. We are taking a new approach to adventure, we are going to immerse ourselves in it! Adventure seems to have one pace and that is GO! We want to engage with our surrounding at a pace we can take photos, have conversations and share laughs.

We have hand-picked four amazing hikes that all lead to spectacular waterfalls, cross creeks, weave through meadows and immerse us into appreciating the nature that surrounds us. This weekend was created as a safe place where women can explore and challenge themselves, celebrate, support and slow it down, while conquering some new trails. While we are exploring we will also be learning and talking about hiking and photography.  We will be camping overnight Preachers Point Rustic Campground, a drive to campground with outhouses and bear cashes.

We will be talking and educating about our trail gear, trail and mountain safety, adventure planning tools and how to have a successful adventure.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation:

Participants are responsible for their own transportation, although carpooling is encouraged.

  • Note you need to be able to drive yourself to and from the campground and the trail heads each morning.

You can’t fly directly to Nordegg but we are under 3 hours away from both the Calgary International Airport and the Edmonton International Airport, giving you a lot of options as you plan your approach to Alberta.

Coming from downtown Edmonton, Nordegg is approximately 300 km (just over 3 hours). The easiest way is to take Highway 2 south to Lacombe. From there take Highway 12 to Rocky Mountain House where you’ll take the David Thompson Highway (Highway 11) west to Nordegg.

Coming from Downtown Calgary, Nordegg is approximately 285 km (3 hours). Our favourite route: head out to Cochrane and drive up the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22) through Sundre, Caroline and Rocky Mountain House. Once you reach Rocky Mountain House we’re only an hour west on the David Thompson Highway (Highway 11).
